“under Under” tells through music and poems the story of Marie Under, a well-known Estonian poetess. The performance concentrates on her poetry and correspondence with artist Ants Laikmaa. 27.10.2010 / “Carmen Alexandrinum”, a theatre performance by folk theatre Loomine at the Estonian Embassy (19:00)

“Carmen Alexandrinum” takes the audience back to the creation of the first poem in Estonian in the 17^th century by Reiner Brockmann. The play is in Estonian. In addition to Brussels, performances are also scheduled in Germany and Luxembourg. More information about the event.

Nordic avant-garde in London Design Festival: ÖÖ: Was it a Dream?

Ö, or 'night' in Estonian, is a temporary gallery + concept store showcasing work by young avant-garde creatives from six Nordic countries - Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Initiated and curated by Merilyn Keskula, it is the first part of the collaborative project by a community of fashion and product designers, photographers, film makers, artists and illustrators, whose work introduces dark and surreal aspects of Nordic aesthetics.

The participants include design duo Vilsbøl de Arce, winners of Design Talent of the Year prize at Danish Fashion Awards 2010; dark and edgy Icelandic photographer Saga Sig, whose blog has a world-wide following and Andrea Maack- an artist-turned-parfumer. Estonian participants include Kriss Soonik and Anu Samarüütel (fashion), Piret Kartus and Tanel Veenre (jewellery), Tarmo Luisk, Jaanus Orgusaar and Kärt Ojavee (product design & other) and Opium Flirt (music).

Every piece included in ÖÖ is created, edited or chosen especially for the project; a mix of showpieces, prototypes and commercial products available for sale or order. Together, with the backdrop of derelict record store, they create a mysterious and surreal environment – interacting with visitors and designers themselves. The project is accompanied by an event programme featuring musicians, DJs, film screenings and art performances. Further information will be released on www.beingkeskula.com.
